"Darkness" by FOE

Year: 1989

Platform: Commodore 64

Type: Demo (single-file, two-page)

Group: FOE

Code: The Phantom, Wrong Way

Music: EVS, Rock

Graphics: The Phantom, Wrong Way, Apollyon, Conan

CSDB Link: http://csdb.dk/release/?id=27181

An early FOE release, you can see the beginning of Phantom's graphic style - I'm guessing that weird rasterbar on the first page was Wrong Way's work.  The big scroller on the second page is LOOOOOOOOONG.  Keep it Oldschool!

I've always rather liked this one, it sums up what NTSC demos were in 1990 rather nicely - DYCPs, split rasters, big scrollers...

Keep it Oldschool!

I always like blow-through effects like the one on the logo here with the sinus behind it. Nice multipager from Havok, but not their best.

Keep it Oldschool!

Platform: Commodore 64

Type: Cracktro

Group: ESI

Code: Mitch

Music: Ben Daglish

Captured By: Six/DLoC (Oliver VieBrooks)

I lied, there's one more!  Finishing up intro night, our final offering is the ESI Eagle intro - probably the most iconic intro on the C64.  Everyone's seen it, everyone remembers it.  Simple, but effective, and used on almost 100 releases.  Keep it Oldschool!

fbr07

Year: 1987

Platform: Commodore 64

Type: Cracktro

Group: FBR

Intro night wraps up with this classic offering from FBR.  No music, simple effects, but this intro was on EVERYTHING back in the day.  Keep it Oldschool!

Year: 1988

Platform: Commodore 64

Group: Abyss

Type: Cracktro

Code: Changeling

Music: Martin Wheeler

Graphics: Kevin Bulmer

Captured By: Six/DLoC (Oliver VieBrooks)

Yes, I'm capping intros too! ;)

This intro really stands out in my memory - I don't know if it's the FLD scroller, the EBCM colorbars, or the sprite motion that reminds me of Dokken's work - but this was always one of my favorites.  Enjoy!  Keep it Oldschool!

1988's "Hardcore" by Abyss

Year: 1988

Platform: Commodore 64

Type: Demo (single-file, multi-page)

Group: Abyss

Code: Changeling

Music: David Whittaker, Ken Legace, Mark Cooksey, Martin Wheeler, Matt Gray

CSDB Page: http://csdb.dk/release/?id=10999

Captured By: Six/DLoC (Oliver VieBrooks)

It would be hard to overstate the impact that Harcore/Abyss had on the NTSC demo scene.  For a lot of us, this was the first time we'd seen FLD or learned that it was simply a VIC trick.  Aside from that, it's a true masterpiece given the time in which it was released.  This is what I consider a 5 star demo for 1988.

Keep it Oldschool!

1993's "Chemsitry" by Second Dimension

Year: 1993 (Estimated)

CSDB Page: http://csdb.dk/release/?id=7549

A standard Second Dimension release - really shows off their devotion to quality, clean design, and great code, graphics, and music.  This is a good example of the quality that made Second Dimension so awesome!  Keep it Oldschool!

1988's "Aftershock" by Abyss

By the time Aftershock came out, most people knew what to expect from a demo - however, there are a number of really well-put-together pages here, combined with some great music selectors.  Keep it Oldschool!

1988's "After Forever" By The Survivors

Year: 1988

Type: Demo (multi-page)

Platform: Commodore 64

Group: The Survivors

Code: Satan

Music: Ben Daglish, David Whittaker, Jason Brooke, Paul Clansey, Red, Wally Beben

Graphics: Satan, Bob Hawker, Torben Bakager

CSDB Link: http://csdb.dk/release/?id=8649

Captured by: Six/DLoC (Oliver VieBrooks)

This is an early one from The Survivors - or at least it's in an early style.  Music-selectors were all the rage at one point, but in 1988, demos were starting to really take shape. More a set of linked intros than a modern demo - it could be said that this helped cement that flavor of demo as an NTSC standard.

1990's "WogooWogo" By Lords

Everyone remembers Lords - their demos were some of the best on the NTSC scene.  They had that rare combination of talent on Code, Music AND Graphics.  If the date is correct, this is one of the earlier Lords demos.

Keep it Oldschool!

Reverb's farewell demo to the C64 - I'm guessing the date is incorrect.

1990's "Deranged" by Lords of Chaos

Platform: Commodore 64

Year: 1990

Group: Lords of Chaos

Type: Demo (2 pager)

Music: Laxity and Ward Selles

CSDB Link: http://csdb.dk/release/?id=65049

Captured by: Six/DLoC (Oliver VieBrooks)

Lords of Chaos was an interesting splinter group, loosely associated with "Dark Lords of Chaos"  This two-pager was their introduction to the C64 demo scene.  The group (like their parent group, DLoC) was more of a H/P/A group than anything.

Keep it Oldschool!
